The Makoto Knife Kit is a compact, USA-made Damascus Japanese-style tanto platform designed for makers who value precision, control, and clean minimalist design. Forged from high-performance carbon steels and layered into a striking 416-layer Damascus pattern, the Makoto delivers a sharp blend of traditional aesthetics and modern craftsmanship in a small, highly functional format.
With a 2.375-inch hollow-ground blade and an overall length of 6.187 inches, this design is intentionally scaled for comfort, agility, and everyday carry potential. The classic tanto profile provides strong tip geometry for piercing tasks while maintaining excellent edge stability for general utility work. Heat treated to 56–58 HRC, the blade arrives ready for finishing, sharpening, and full custom handle construction.
The full tang construction includes three 0.156" through-holes for secure pinning, along with included stainless steel pinstock for straightforward assembly. The tang can also be modified to accommodate custom fasteners, giving makers flexibility across a wide range of build styles.
This platform is offered in nine variations to support different levels of completion and customization. The base option includes the USA Damascus blade blank with pinstock only, ideal for builders who want full control over handle materials and finishing. The remaining eight variations are complete combo kits that pair the blade with pre-selected hardwood scales, streamlining the build process while still delivering a fully customizable final knife.
