Above, are the Parts that we’ll be working with for this project. (Please note that this
tutorial represents only one way to build this kit. There are many ways to construct this model)

Mill a slot on the inside of both slabs to accommodate the tang of the blade.
We’re building a concealed tang knife.

The results should look like this after deburring and sanding. Be sure the scales fit up tight against the guard.

Clamp one scale up tight against the guard with the shank inside the slot you milled.

Drill thru one of the holes in the shank and all the way thru the wood using a #30 (.130) drill.

Insert a pin into each hole as you go to prevent shifting. Drill all 3 holes.

Now clamp both scales to the shank and drill thru the first side all the way
thru the second scale. Add pins as you go.

Draw a rough profile around the shank and saw the excess away.

Mark the second scale and saw it out. Use pins in the holes to line the scales up.

Assemble the scales on the knife.
(I decided to add another pin at the back past the shank.)

Rough sanded to shape and fitted to the guard.

I soaked my scales in wood sealer overnight.

Mix 2-part epoxy and cover all the parts inside. Add a little extra inside the
cutouts for the shank.

Clamp securely until the epoxy cures. Clean up any excess on the
blade with a paper towel soaked in denatured alcohol.

Sanded, waxed and polished.

Beautiful, isn’t it?
The handle scales are book-matched, which means that the same patterns in the wood run from one side to the other.

Congratulations!
