Folding Knife Pivots and Pivot Washers

Both press fit pivots carry a lube groove and a serrated spine that presses into a bolster, liner or frame, so the barrel stays put as the screw tightens. The .250 has a 3-slot head and 8-32 thread. The .187 comes with a 6-32 button head screw, and its UFO head matches that screw for an even counterbore on both sides. Pivot barrels come in 1/8, 3/16 and 1/4 inch, and the 5mm (.195) barrel ships on its own, threaded for fine 6-80 screws.

Steve Kelly's SK Design™ PVA Series pairs a heat-treated 416 stainless barrel with 6Al-4V titanium screws and a T15 Torx drive, in the same three diameters. His 3/16 inch fixed-head assembly, made for framelock folders and fixed blade handles, is all 416 stainless with a 6-40 screw and T8 Torx drive. The Heretic Design™ .250 assembly also fastens fixed blade handles, with a 17-4 H900 stainless barrel, .375 inch heads, a T25 Torx drive and 18-8 stainless or titanium screws. Other assemblies include D-style anti-rotation, micro and bushing designs, some doubling as liner standoffs.

Washers space the blade from the liners and cut friction. Nylon comes in 12 sizes, and phosphor bronze in 10 that run from micro washers for compact slipjoints up to 0.500 inch for full-size folders. Nylotron® is a self-lubricating nylon in three sizes, and micro bearing washers hold stainless steel balls in a machined bezel, in 12 sizes.
