Knife Making Abrasives, Sanding Belts and Buffing Supplies
Shop knife making abrasives for grinding blade blanks to shape, hand sanding bevels and handles, and buffing steel to a mirror. Sanding belts in 2 x 72, 1 x 72 and 1 x 42 are joined by wet/dry sheets, foam sponges, 8 inch discs, flap wheels, Airway™ buffing wheels, Maverick™ compounds and belt sticks.
Combat Abrasives™ ceramic Shredder belts, 24 to 220 grit, cut faster and stay cooler while you profile a blade blank. J-Flex belts bend around handle curves, and scalloped edge 1 x 72 belts suit slack-belt work. Cloth-backed aluminum oxide belts, 120 to 600 grit in a 1-pack or 5-pack, smooth blade bevels on 2 x 72 grinders and 1 x 42 sanders. The Maverick™ #14 grease stick adds bite and limits heat on coarse belts, and the rubber MATZ #228 stick unclogs a moving belt, which can add 30 to 50 percent to its life.
Hand sanding moves to aluminum oxide wet/dry paper, 10-packs of 9 x 11 inch sheets from 120 grit up to a 2000 grit mirror polish, with coarser 60 and 80 grit silicon carbide sheets. Washable foam sponges bend into the curves of bolsters and handle material. Back on the grinder, four grades of 2 x 72 conditioning belts blend scratches on metal.
On the buffer, Maverick™ Black cuts 320 and 400 grit scratches on steel, Blue and White raise a bright luster, Green Rouge gives steel a darker, richer finish, Pink suits wood and plastic handles, and Purple Rouge leaves the final mirror. Airway™ wheels, 16-ply in red, pink or white treat, pass air through the wheel so a blade heats less. Wear a respirator while buffing. Grinders to run these belts are listed separately in knife making tools, and you can ask for a grit sequence that fits the steel you are grinding.
