Create a classic custom knife handle with Loveless-Style Fasteners, a legendary fastening system inspired by the designs popularized by renowned knife maker Bob Loveless. These three-piece fasteners provide a secure mechanical connection while creating one of the most recognizable decorative fastener patterns in custom knife making.
Each Loveless-Style Fastener set includes one threaded screw and two threaded heads. Installation requires creating a stepped hole in each side of the handle material, allowing the screw to pass through the knife tang and handle scales. When tightened, the threaded heads create strong pinch points on both sides of the handle material, securely clamping the scales in place. After assembly, the screw head can be removed and the fastener can be sanded flush with the handle surface, creating the distinctive bull’s-eye appearance that has become a hallmark of custom knife craftsmanship.
For additional strength and durability, Loveless-Style Fasteners can be installed with epoxy and/or thread-locking adhesive to create a permanent handle bond. Mixing different materials between the threaded heads and screw allows makers to create unique contrast and visual effects that enhance the finished knife.
