Big Sky (USA Damascus) - DIY Knife Kit - (w/Handle Combos)

The Big Sky Knife Kit Series delivers a versatile fixed blade platform designed for hunting performance, balanced handling, and clean custom finishing. Centered around a 4.00" hollow-ground blade and an 8.70" overall length, the Big Sky provides a dependable mid-size profile that feels natural in hand while offering the cutting control needed for skinning, field dressing, and everyday outdoor utility.

 

Each variation in the series shares the same USA-made Damascus blade construction and proven full tang layout, allowing builders to focus on shaping, finishing, and handle customization while selecting the handle material configuration that best fits the intended final build.

 

Every Big Sky blade features a 1.125" wide profile with a flowing blade shape designed to create a comfortable, balanced feel during extended use. The tang includes two 0.250" handle holes and one 0.310" thong hole for lanyard or retention configurations. Stainless steel pinstock is included with every variation, while the mounting holes can also be modified to accommodate larger pins or threaded fasteners for additional customization flexibility.

 

The series is available both as a blade blank only configuration and as combo kits featuring premium hardwood handle scales. Available scale options include Bubinga, Canarywood, Lacewood, Purpleheart, Walnut, and Yellowheart—allowing each finished knife to carry its own distinct grain character, natural contrast, and visual personality.

 

Every blade in the Big Sky series is crafted from USA-made layered carbon steel Damascus using a five-fold process that produces 416 total layers. The steel configuration combines 52100, 5160, 203E, and 15N20 to deliver strong edge retention, dependable durability, and bold Damascus pattern definition throughout the blade surface. Heat treated to 56–58 RC, the platform is built to handle demanding use while maintaining the unmistakable appearance expected from premium Damascus steel.
